Vermicelli Upma

Ingredients for this Recipe

Semolina or wheat vermicelli

1/2 cup

Oil

1 tsp

Mustard seeds

3 gm

Cumin seeds

Onion, chopped

2 tbsp

Tomato, chopped

2 tbsp

French beans

2 tbsp

Carrots, chopped

2 tbsp

Turmeric powder

3 gm

Red chilli powder

3 gm

Water as needed

Preparation

1. In a pan, dry roast vermicelli continuously for about 2 minutes or till golden brown. Remove it in a plate and cool down.

2. In the same pan, add oil and let it get hot over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds to the oil and let them splutter.

3. Add the chopped onions to the pan and sauté for 2-3 minutes or until they are soft and translucent. Add the chopped tomatoes, chopped carrots, and chopped beans to the pan and sauté for another 2-3 minutes or till half-cooked.

4. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

5. Add roasted vermicelli to the pan and mix well.

6. Add water to the pan and allow it to boil.

7. Cover the pan and let it cook for 5-7 minutes or until the vermicelli is cooked.

8. Once done, garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
