Dal Tadka

Ingredients for this Recipe

Yellow Dal

1/4 cup

Small onion, chopped

Small tomato, chopped

Crushed ginger ang garlic

Turmeric powder

1/4 tsp

Red chilli powder

1/4 tsp

Preparation

1. Rinse the yellow moong dal and soak it in water for 30 minutes.

2. Drain the water and add the dal to a pressure cooker with 1 cup of water and a pinch of salt. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft and cooked.

3. In a pan, heat ghee and add the cumin seeds. Let them splutter.

4. Add the finely chopped onions and cook until they are soft and translucent.

5. Add the grated ginger and minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes.

6. Add the finely chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft and mushy.

7. Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.

8. Add the cooked dal to the pan and mix well. Add water as needed to achieve the desired consistency.

9. Simmer for 5-6 minutes on low heat.

10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
